Hi!
I'm trying to train my keet, Uno. I've tried different ways to tame him. I tried using the perch, but he's afraid of it. I've tried sticking my hand in there and let him get used to it, but he goes into the corner. I know hand taming takes time, but I would like to use different methods to see which one works best. So how did you hand tame your keet??:budgie:

-Cheers!:D

If your changing your metods then Uno may get confused. Just stick to the one, take Uno out of his cage everyday and begin hand taming with him. Try ladder exercises with him, allowing him to hop up onto one hand afer another. It takes time, but it will soon pay off. This method worked with my late budgie Bert. Just spend as much time with him as you can, and he will soon bond with you.

Place a piece of millet in your hand and put your hand in the cage. Hold your hand right up to Uno's breast. The millet should tempt Uno to hop up onto your hand and when he does so move your hand slowly out of the cage. Millet is very good for this.
This is a great thing to begin with as it gets Uno used to sitting on your hand. Once Uno is out of the cage take him into a small room such as the bathroom and begin bonding with him! Good luck! ;)

If you cannot get Uno out of his cage, then keep your hand in the cage until he becomes more used to your hand being in the cage and then moving closer and closer to him slowly, this may take a few days, then after you gain his trust try and take him out of the cage and do what Kelly27 suggested

what worked for 3 of mine:

put your hand in the cage every day while changing food and water. Just keep it in there talking quietly, dont make any sudden movements. After a few weeks or even months, he wont be afraid of it and just sit quietly. Then you can put your hand in there with some milet or anything he likes to eat, and wait for him to eat it. Then you can open the cage door in a small room eg bathrrom and wait until he comes out (yo can tempt him out with his fave food) surround him with your arms until he hops on. He will probobly fly off again but keep doing it until he is on your hand for a few minutes. Its a good idea to hanve his wings clipped beforhand, but its optional. Then teavh him the "up" command( after a few days of course not straight away) tehn hes tame! =)

Also, when you're tempting him with millet, it works well if you do it in several short intervals, rather than fewer, more lengthy ones.
