Questions about leaving my parakeets for a few days

I'm planning to go out of town for a few days, and I'm concerned about leaving my 4 parakeets.

I'm planning to leave lots of food and water out.

My main concern is the temperature of the house due to the time of year that it is. Unfortunately, we do not have a heating/cooling system that adjusts itself or we'd be good to go.


I'm assuming I should leave the AC on, since it obviously gets hotter now than cooler. I'm in the northeast US.

I just wonder how cool I should set it. What may keep it comfortable during the day may freeze them at night.


I was thinking 75??? I'm afraid if I go any lower, it may be too cool at night.

What are your thoughts?


Also, I obviously cannot put a sheet over them at night, so will they be alright if it's not on? That's just a security thing for them, right?

Is there any way that you can arrange for relatives to look after them or even for someone just to pop in to check on them? This would be better for them and it means you would have to worry less.

Well, I've thought about that a lot, but there's really only one person who could do that for me, and she's going with me. : (

next door neighbour or anyone near by you trust, as all they have to do is change food and water make sure its warm and speak to them for a bit

You can't leave budgies on their own, it's cruel. There would be no one there if something went wrong. :( Don't you have a friend or relative they could stay with?

Maybe even get someone to check on them like at least every other day just to make sure.

Isn't there anyone who could do it for you? Friends, family, neighbours etc

About 75 degrees would be fine.
