View Full Version : What colour mutation is this bird?
Hi there,
I was hopeing that you could help me solve this mystery...
Would you please have a look at my new little budgie-boy at 8 weeks.
I so want to know what mutation he is. I`ve submitted several photos of him both in Norway and in Denmark, but no one seems to know what he really is.
He was born at a breeder who, in the breeding season keps all of his birds(pairs) together in one large enclosure. Sadly I don`t know much about his parents.
The breeder has sent me a coupple of photos of the ones that he thinks are his parents, but so far we all have doubts that his dad is actually his dad.
Have any of you seen a budgie similair to this little guy?? I`m just dying to know what he is...
I`ve attached 3 photos of him as well as a coupple of his so called parents. (The spangle light green is supposed to be his dad, the other one his mum).
Thanks!
Sincerely KBJ

click on Grey Factor and it looks alot like the Yellow on they show only lighter
but I'm not expert by any means but it does look allot like it, at least to me it does
Hi again,
Thank you for your answer, but he is Olivegreen. And that`s about all I know about him. It is his yellow wings, his yellow tail and the fact that he has so very light (almost invisible) wing markings that confuses me. And still he has that dark body colour. He is just so crisp and clean in his markings! At his feet and below his tail he also has a soft violet touch, like a violet layer over the green. I`m sorry, I`m just terrible at explaining but I hope you understand what I mean...?! I am thinking that he might have a violet factor?

I'm not too good with mutations but I just wanted to say that the little baby in the first three pictures is absolutely adorable! The second picture is just too cute to handle :)

Thank you, Softie. Yes, he sure is a little sweetheart! If I only knew what kind of mutation he was as well. I sure hope that someone here, can try and help me figure it out. Your little friend looks so adorable as well. :)

From my knowledge of mutations I would say you're little fella is a Olive Green Clearwing. Clearwing's from what I know have very light wing markings to none at all and a very dark body color. Your budgie fits that description to the tee so that's what I think he is. If he isn't I would also be stumped, but that is what I think.
Oh, by the way gorgeous budgie. :D
Love the color.
I'm thinking he's an olive green clearwing too. :) Like Andres said, the description fits perfectly. :D

Well at first I was going to say the bird was a double factor spangle. Sometimes color DOES slip through. The first time I saw this was at one of our shows last year. It was a sky and I though it was a Texas Clear-body, but the coloring was reversed so I had to ask what it was.
However, now if you look closely at the pic of the bird here the top of the bird's head, it has light colored bars. Also look at the flashings on the cheeks. Double factor spangles have have white flashings. This bird is a double factored pied.

I have a dominant pied that started out with white cheek spots but after her first molt she has purple and white cheek patches. I know the father is a dominant pied but I always thought the hen was a normal green. What would it make the parents to get a double factor?
