View Full Version : When can I train the chick?
My chick is now 29 days old. It's still being fed by its' mother. How much longer will it be, before it starts eating on its' own and I can start training it?

My babies are 2 and 3 weeks old, and I have been handling the oldest (Nut) for 2 weeks now, and the other baby for the last week. I take them out and hold them for a while (5-10mins), and then I put them back in the nest box. Nut now looks for me when I open the nest box, and quite often falls asleep in my hand or tucked in my shirt.
A couple of the breeders on here have said that you can handle them from about 5 days on. I waited until they were a little more than a week.
Good luck!
Post a pic when you can!

hmmm you can handle the chicks really at any age but being careful not to cover them in your scent when they are too young, before they leave the nest is a good time to start so anyhting between 2-4 weeks should be fine, or whenever after that if you want
Now the chick is five and a half weeks old. It gets on my hand and eats millet, and I take it out of the cage for short periods of time. Is it old enough to put into its'own cage, or does it still need its' mommy?
