It's been a very long time since I've last posted---sorry about that.
I became the caretaker to my sweet liittle Jolly bird almost one year ago.
He has gone from a little frightened perch potato to a full fledged acrobat.

He enjoys my company on his terms--WHEN he is in the mood, and I am so in love with him, that it's alright with me.
When he wants to favor me with a little kiss or treat me to perching on my finger he does that...but for the most part he likes my comapny on his terms--LOL

I have noticed that he seems to not be aware of when I am in the room---but when I leave the room--he does an amazing job of flock calling me, and once actually flew after me!

I do want to share with you a fabulous toy that I've found.
While visiting a favorite swap meet-- I came across a used wooden folding wine rack.
I brought it home, and had my fiancee cut the bottom rung off so it would fit on the top of Jollys cage.
I hung lots of toys on the gym--and it was an immediate hit.

It was so popular that I wanted to buy another--which I did on e Bay.
I have attached a few photos of the first gym and then the additional gym.
I have spent many hours just watching him enjoy these new toys.
I stacked them on his cage and open the door---and also use one of them on the coffee table where he is allowed to play while I watch TV at night.

I like it.... great ideal, how do you hold it up on the cage?;)

Actually since Jollys cage has a slanted top, by cutting off the bottom rung of the rack--it fits perfectly. If the cage were to have a flat top--then cutting the bottom wouldn't be necessary.
I even stack the uncut one on top of the cut one and he has a huge gym to play on.
Honestly you would not believe how much fun he has on those things.
I use the uncut one seperately when I let him out of the cage at night.

I also forgot to mention that I went to a craft store and bought a package of mirror rounds..
They are about 1" in diameter and I've glued them to the areas of the gym that will not touch when it is folded up.

It is honestly so much fun to watch--and he is having a ball.
He is adoravble jumping and climbing all over it.

I paid $1.00 for the first one.
The second one I found on E-Bay and got it for .99 cents--but the shipping was about $12.00
Worth every penny!:)

As I said, I found the first wooden folding wine rack at a swap meet--(garage sale)
It is not as spiffy as the one I bought on E-Bay.

You might even hunt one down in a thrift shop.

It will make for a good treasure hunt!
Good luck-

That's a really cute idea. ;) You can hang tons of stuff from all the different bars!

One thing I would watch for: keeping an eye on your budgies to see if they chew the wood. Because the wood is stained, you'll want to make sure they don't ingest any. The wood looks pretty solid though, so maybe they won't be able to pierce their little beaks in... :p

What a brilliant idea!!! Who needs factory made play-gyms!!?

I feel a trip to my local craft store coming on too - to make some beady hanging toys too!!

Fantastic.... and thanks for sharing with us! :budgie:

My fiancee was going to make me an extra, but realized how much work it was going to entail and it was so much easier to buy one on E-Bay.
It was listed as a wooden folding wine rack.
The first one I bid on didn't work as I was outbid.
The second one I got for $.99 cents!
The shipping was about $12.00 though--(still worth it!)
I had a real surprise yesterday, as a good friend of mine who lives in Chicago found one in a thrift shop and mailed it to me!
I now have 3 of them--LOL
The one my friend sent me is pretty dirty so I'm cleaning it before hanging toys.
I also stopped at the craft shop today and bought another package of 1" diameter mirrors ( about 20 for $2.49).
I will glue them to the posts that don't rub together when rthe rack is folded

Here are a few more photos of Jolly-

Thank you!

I was trying to think of a toy that offered lots of options.
What I love about this one is, it can be put on top of the cage or in front of it---I can stack another rack on top-(which I have done) and create a huge gym---and it has so many rungs that Jolly enjoys jumping through and on.
Also I have many toys and mirrors fastened to the sides.
He just goes nuts!
He honestly doesn't know what to do first--LOL

I am also thinking that a wooden cup holder on a stand would be another option.
Possibly put on a window sill?
...Hmmmmm--have to give that a little thought-

That's a really cool toy. It looks very nice with the other additional toys on it. It's a great idea. =) And it's nice to see that Jolly is enjoying it so much.

It is nice and a creative idea. :) I would be careful with the mirrors though. It looks like they can be grabbed and possibly pulled off. Can you get smaller ones that would fit on the bars with no overhang?

I just wanted to post these new photos.
A good freind of mine found yet another wine rack in a thrift shop.
She lives in Chicago.
She has mailed it to me--and once again, Jolly is beside himself with joy.
This new rack is configured a bit differently--and I think it has stimulated his imagination-

This is perfect! I was trying to come up with something that would fit nicely on the top shelf of my desk and that had potential to be a play area. Uno has taken to sitting on top of lampshade on my desk and I really don't want him there. He really isn't too playful yet, he likes to just sit and observe.
I found 2 of these wineracks at Goodwill today for $1 each. It is the perfect size for my desk. Thanks so much for posting this idea!
