View Full Version : Can a budgie and a lovebird play together?
Can a budgie and a lovebird play together for a short supervised period of time? The lovebird wont just attack my budgie will it? Or does it depend on the birds? My mothers lovebird has layed some eggs. If they are all fertilized and all goes well. I will be taking one of them. Of course they will be staying in different cages. But I just want them to be able to play at the same time :)

Hmmmm, not totally sure about this one. You certainly would not want to house them together.
You may wish to try introducing them by having their cages side by side for a bit. Then one could be out while the other is still caged. Then if all goes well, then maybe you could introduce them to each other when they are both out as long as they are supervised like you said. Anyone have different thoughts on this?
Well my previous budgie was picked on a bit lol. The lovebirds seemed to be jelous of the long tail feathers. haha, all they did was bite his tail. It was humerous. I guess I shall have to wait and see what happens.

I wouldn't place lovebirds with budgies even if you will supervise mainly because lovebirds are aggressive towards other birds and sometimes other lovebirds. What a lovebird may find playful and in good intention it can hurt a budgie, cause it to bleed, or even kill it. Im not sure if this is true for budgies and lovebirds that have been handraised since babies but I wouldn't do it with older birds.

I did know someone who try this and the lovebird killed the budgie. Now I'm not saying this would happen in all cases but I would be very careful. Lovebirds are bigger and stronger and very aggressive.

I wouldn't take the risk, my poor innocent finger has suffered at the beak of a lovebird and i certainly wouldn't even consider putting a budgie in a situation where it could get the same treatment, the lovebird could cause way too much damage.
