Thought I'd let everyone know bub#3 is now over 24 hours old, and is doing great! Mom is feeding him as soon as he makes a noise and then cuddles up with bub and the remaining eggs. I think this one and any others to follow are going to make it! Dad is currently being a little glutton, he's discovered he has a taste for shredded carrot and broccoli! But I do see him taking a bit of carrot in for mom every now and then. All in all Prince, Princess and bub are all doing quite well now!!
Dad will scoff his face and then go feed mum. ;) So he has every right to be a piggy! I'm so glad baby #3 is alive and well.
If you like i'll move this to breeding journals and you can use this thread to update everyone on the babies development.

Sure never thought of that lol. Due to unforseen circumstances, I've got to go away overnight, so it may be a day or 2 for next update. My mom and sister (lives in same building) are going to be watching our pets and keeping an eye on mom and bub And yes, she's more than capable, after all, she married and lived with my father for 18 years and developed a love for little things too, so i know they are in good hands while I'm away. I'll post again as soon as I can!

Bubs are doing really good, and the older one has dark little "slivers" on him, I think it's the start of his feathers! 2 eggs left, one is a dud (glows yellow with yolk inside. the other is a few days from hatching. Mom broke egg #5, the one I thought had the blood ring and stopped forming. I was right on it. #6 though has a baby inside, so I'm figuring by the end of this weekend I'll have a third. It looks like out of a clutch of 7, I'll have 5 hatched (2 lost) and 2 duds, leaving us with 3 babies growing! I'll remove the last egg once the other hatches. We leave for Toronto tomorrow afternoon, so again my mom is going to be keeping an eye on things here (Kianna is so excited about seeing her friends and going to the zoo sunday before we come home).
I do have one Question though... Princess came out of the nest box earlier, and she's got a big "turd" stuck to her belly feathers....she seems to hold it in for hours, comes out, does a really big job, then back into the nest. Looks like this time she didn't make it out of the box intime and managed to lay on it. could this pose a problem, should I try (somehow?) to remove it from her feathers? Keep in mind she's still not handtamed, although we are working on it...I'm just wondering if I should try to remove it or let her be....

I can't believe just how quick these chick's are growing, it's unreal! everyone is doing great, looks like that last chick has breached the air cell, so I should have a 3rd baby by sunday night! We're getting ready to take off to Toronto in about an hour, so again my mom is watching the zoo. I'll update when I get back sunday night/monday morning as to when the 3rd chick hatched!!!!

Bub #1 has his/her eyes fully open, watches you when picked up,and moves around alot now. #2's eyes are nearly open and seems really energetic, and chirps ALOT! #3 is doing good, mom is feeding him despite his being lost under the other 2. The feathers are starting to come out on the older 2 so I can't wait to see how they'll look!!

Ok hey all I'm back! ran into some building problems (I'm assistant property manager) that resulted in partial power loss in the building, had no power to half my apt, so no pc for a few days. Everything is back up and running though, so I'm back with an update!
Our 3 bubs are getting big fast! Oldest is now 14 days old, now completely covered in down feathers, and loves to cuddle when taken out and held. I suspect he/she is going to be green/yellow, as the wing feathers are starting to emerge from their sheath's (sp?) and are yellow in colour. I'm guessing it won't be long now before I know for sure!
#2 is 12 days old now, and the more energetic, running, or attempting to run, all over you or the bed or where ever you put him/her down. Like the oldest, he/she is nearly fully covered in down feathers as well.
#3 is now 6 days old, and eyes are starting to open! all are doing quite well, and mom and dad are working hard to keep them well fed. I cannot believe just how much seed these little guys are going through! we're going to have to go and pick up a bigger bag of seed sunday before we run out!
I've started covering the bottom of the nest box with cloth to make cleaning easier as I'm now cleaning it at least once a day. My daughter loves this time, as it gives her a chance to play with the oldest 2 chicks on the bed while I clean. She has decided one will be named Cinderella, so how long before I'll know which one, if any are female?????
Anyways, I gotta get my butt in gear and head for work, so I'll post more later and try to get a pic or 2 up!!!

ok, as promised, more Vids of the 2 oldest bubs! We've been playing with them off and on through-out the day for the last few days, and they are getting rather attached to these times out of the nest box. My camera hasn't been taking the greatest of photos, but the video's are decent!
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z202/DemoniqueRose/th_bubsexploring.jpg (http://s192.photobucket.com/albums/z202/DemoniqueRose/?action=view¤t=bubsexploring.flv)

the oldest is definately going to have yellow, almost all of his/her feathers that have begun peeking out are a nice yellow color! Bub #2 is the one usually seen running all over in the vids, really active, and both seem to hightail it for the nearest bit of skin, whether it be hand, arm, leg or foot, and seem to enjoy crawling over us. Princess has been rather protective of the youngest bub, so we haven't been handling him much which is why he's not in these videos.
And now both parents have begun to spend more and more time together outside the nest box, cuddling on a perch, singing on the swing together, and they tend to feed each other before going in to feed the babies. All in all, they are doing great and I love watching the bubs grow and noticing each little difference from the day before. My daughter is absolutely fascinated with these tiny things and excited that they now have "wings"!

Thought I'd drop in a line, let everyone know I do still live, and the babies are thriving! I've been rather preoccupied with other serious matters, my mother-in-law had to go for emergency surgury last monday and things have gotten tense once again. Add to that the fact that my Dbl rex rat, Spook isn't doing well, and it's been a rough week. I figure we're likely losing Spook within the next 4-6 weeks, as I can' afford min $600 treatment that might kill her anyways.
As for the budgies, they are so energetic and thier colouring is really coming out (in the older 2). It looked like they were both going to be mirror images of Princess ( green with yellow face and markings), but in the last few days, there have been some bright blue feathers emerging on thier bellies and around thier legs. The oldest looks like he/she is going to have a mottled blue & green belly with a dark green backside, the 2nd is similar, but the green feathers on his/her back are alot brighter in comparision! #3 is now standing on it's own, eyes fully open, and looks for attention too. Wonder if he'she is going to end up primarily green too.
Now I have a question...the 2 older bubs, thier cere's are turning purple-tinged blue....could this be a possible sign of gender?? or does this occur in every chick first???

Hey alot of baby budgies cere's do turn this colour as they start to age, they will come into true sex colour cere's close to or after their first moult. Congrats on the healthy brood, I look forward to futher updates.

I know, I know......long time since updated. Lost net, bad break up and death of close friends and a pet can do that to a person. On the upside, babies are doing great! oldest 2 have been named, #1 is Olive due to her colouring ( she reminds me of an olive!) #2 is Cinderella, a bright geen with a blueish lower belly, and the friendlier of the 3; and #3 has yet to be named. My Daughter hasn't figured out what to name her yet!!!
At 9 w 2D, 9 wks and 8 weeks 2 days, all three are a handfull! All are fully flighted and holy terrors in the household. AND all three are female (nice white ceres) and various shades of green with a hint of blue here and there. Poor old Prince, the ONLY blue budgie AND male in the home!! here are some pics I've just put up!

Olive, 9Wks, 2 d ( lighting makes her look a brighter green than she is!)
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z202/DemoniqueRose/Olive.jpg
Cinderella, 9 wks, has closest colouring to Princess (mom)
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z202/DemoniqueRose/Cinderella2.jpg
Baby #3( 8 wks 2 d), potentially named Spook after our pet rat who passed away last weekend, My daughter's choice.
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z202/DemoniqueRose/Baby2.jpg
She is an odd colouring, depending on the light, she is green, but I think half her belly feathers are blue, as at times she appears more blue than green!
Anyways, I'll post more at a later time, as I plan on being around more often now that I have internet once again!!
