The comfy one is nothing more than a rope........go to Dollar Tree and buy a dog toy that has a long rope through it......untie it to get the rope out and use it for your cage. It is the same thing.....for a buck! Just tie a knot at each end and pry it through the bars at a cross point......my cockatiel loves it! I even used some rope ribbon to make one for my finches.....
You can go out and find some branches and use those as perches. Eucalypt or pine are examples of safe wood.

lamonsas, can you post a picture of the plastic perches you have? I have a couple of plastic ones in my cage as well and I'm quite happy with them. I think what the others are trying to tell you is that it's best to have a variety of shapes and sizes and textures for your birds to perch on. That way their feet get excercised and stay healthy.
As long as you don't have ALL plastic or ALL wooden you should be right. You should aim to get as much variety in perch width and texture as possible. :)

With perches there should be a variety of them in the cage, different shapes and sizes of perches help exercise and stimulate the muscles of a budgie's foot. As mentioned before a rope perch is somewhat essential as they are softer and often used as a sleeping perch (its best to have the rope perch highest in the cage), then comes the wooden ones, make sure to get those in different sizes. And optionally, you can also include a cement or pedi-perch (should be placed in middle/lower part of the cage). I read somewhere the plastic dowels/perches can be bad for the bird's foot but aslong as you have a variety in there, it shouldn't matter.

You can cut a dent into both sides of the branches or you can use steel washers and screws.
There are also special perch holders you could use.

Hey all i removed the 2 wooden perches that came with my cage,

I just make sure that the tree branch is long enough that it will stick out both sides of the cage and just put it between a couple of upright bars so it can't move very far.
If you got the branches from a park or something, you might want to wash it off first (lots of water and a tiny drop of soap. Rinse well afterwards) to make sure that there aren't any pesticides or anything else harmful stuck to the bark.
