Ok, When I got Casper & Jasper, I purchased them from a pet store, one with a excellent reputaton, is there anyway of telling if they are related? When I picked them out there were a lot of birds in the cage and those 2 touched my heart. I want to breed them, but after finding out what happened to my aunt and hearing what can happen to breeding related birds I am worried now.
They told me they were not related, but how can I be certain?

I don't think that you can tell if birds are related (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I'm sure their not related if the pet shop said they wern't. It's just like humans....You can only tell if their related by the way they look, but budgies can be not at all like their brothers and sisters ;)

I agree with percy'n'millie, i don't think it is possible to tell if they are related. If the pet shop said they were'nt, then dont worry about it.

I was just wondering because with Casper being an Albino and Jasper a Recessive Pied, wasn't sure if they could be related somehow. I want to breed these 2 bad, I have been reading this forum, other forums, different web sites, and have a vet ready if needed. Once they are old enough (which will be in about 4 - 5 months) I will buy a breeding box, I already have them a calcium block and mineral block and I put vitamin drops in their water, plus they are on a well balanced diet.

I got them in Dec. 2005 and they told me they were between 1 1/2 - 2 months old, so they were born sometime in Oct. 2005

I dont think you can tell. maybe if you have a dna sexing type thing done, maybe they can tell that also?
as for relations, i would say chances are they are not related. even if they come from the same "bird mill" which most pet stores get, they have so many birds breeding, chances are they are not brother & sister.
but, thats just my guess. lol
