i put my birds together. today and my boy was following the girl around and then trying to put his leg up on her.... is he wanting to mate..... i thought he was to young? Is he wanting her out of his cage so he is trying to show me that or what.. by the way when the boy does this to the girl she gets mad.. but they always want to be together... what the deal:S

It sounds like he is exhibiting some mating behaviours, unless he looks more like he is kickboxing her. Do your girl budgie's eyes pin? (meaning do the pupils go really small so you can see more of the whites of the eyes?) She's probably feeling pretty frisky if her eyes do that.

Here's a picture of Kiwi trying to get it on with Skyla. (I realize it's a bit blurry).

If I recall correctly, your budgies are still quite young? If they're younger than about a year or a year and a half, you really don't want them to mate as they really aren't ready at that age. Budgies unfortunately don't pay attention to how young they are when they try to mate. . . . .You may have to separate them. However, the good news is that it often takes a fair amount of practice for budgies to successfully mate. It's rare that they'd do it right the first few times they try!

i have not looked at her eyes. but i will next time they are playing togehter. I dont think the girl is enterested in him though. I just didnt know why he would be doing this at such a young age. but i guess it like teenager and birds. never listen. lol:rolleyes:

Oh yes, and I forgot to mention that you should watch her tail too. If she lifts her tail up and her eyes pin, she is feeling frisky!

Budgies always try to start young. I've had daddy budgies mating with their daughters soon after the babies left the nest.

yep, obviously i don't provide them with the environment to properly breed in but that doesn't stop them mating.
