I have a question, this is not for me, it is for my aunt, about a year ago she purchase 2 budgies from the same clutch, she told the lady at the time gender dind't matter, cause she wasn't planning on mating them. Anyways, She ended up with a male and female, I just talked to her on the phone and she told me 3 days ago she say them mating. I know that it is said not to mate budgies unless they are 100% NOT related, what will happen if they are related and the mating is successful? Meaning the eggs are fertile?
Help answer asap.

Well, if the two budgies mated, they would essentially be weakening the gene pool. This could potentially result in a higher death rate of the offspring. In addition, many cancers and tumours may be the result of such breeding.
Hmmmm, anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Ok, I will let her know, I just talked to her a few minutes ago and she said that she has placed a small box in the cage and the female has started sitting in the box, I hope the babies will be ok if they did mate. She doesn't have a pet store near her so she cut a whole in a 6 in x 6 in. I will call her back and let her know of the warnings to look for and the possibilties that could happen to the babies.
When should she remove the male from the cage so the mating won't happen again? I know he has to be in there to help feed the female while she is with the egss and caring for the young, as well as helping care for the young, but when should she take him out?

if she plans to keep the babies, she will need to leave the male in with her. for the future, i would not remove the male, that would be hard on them both. i would let them mate, let her keep the eggs if she lays any, and replace them with fake eggs as they are laid. she will give up on them when nothing happens.
adding a nesting box will only stimulate her to lay the eggs too.

found this site googling
:) Well some breeders in breed thier budgies to get certain traits say if there was a body shape you liked you could inbreed them and the first clucth of babies could turn out fine but after that it would weaken teh gene pool....But I would just leave them for this one and put fake eggs in for the next or separate them make sure you dont breed the siblings together

Your best choice is to boil the eggs, let them cool down and then give them back so the mother does not continue to lay eggs she has lost which she will if any are missing. Boil them to the point where you know there is no chance for them to hatch. The downfall of this will be if it turns out they're not related if the eggs were to hatch then you'd lose a perfectly normal baby. I always recommand this to those that just down want any babies.
Finally, boil some chicken eggs crush it up with the shell and feed it to the mother so she regains the calcium she lost when laying eggs.

I talked with her this morning and no eggs yet, she said they female is spening a lot of time in the nesting box and the male is feeding her, she said they mated again several times again, so it could be any day now. will keep you all updated. I told her how to candle the eggs, she said she will check them about 2 weeks after they have been laid.
