Well we decided to put our new Crystal(the bird we found in our yard) in with Casey or bird that we have had for a while now.We put the cages next to each other for a few days and they seemed to want to be together all the time. When we moved the cages further apart they squawked like mad.
So after about 5 minutes in the new cage,Crystal the new one was attacking Casey.I thought OK it will soon finish, but it kept on for a few hours, not non stop but lots of knitpicking and squabbles which I felt uncomfortable with.
So I put Crystal back in her original cage and they stopped squawking. So is it safe to say that these 2 will never get along?
I thought Casey would be the bully, but Crystal is older and turned out to be the bully here.Is there anything I could do to make it easier.I made sure I had 2 of everything in Crystals cage and still they fought over the same dish, the same toy, which there were 2 of but both wanted the same one.I felt like I was watching my daughters brawling!:p
Any suggestions??:S

So after about 5 minutes in the new cage,Crystal the new one was attacking Casey.
Are they both female? Than it's quite common that they fight.
Or is one of the budgies a chick? Than the older one could be irritated by the young one. That normaly stops as soon as the chick ends it's first moult.
So I put Crystal back in her original cage and they stopped squawking. So is it safe to say that these 2 will never get along?

When they are definetely not 2 females they will get along pretty sure. But you shouldn't put them together by force. Try to let them fly at the same time so that they can avoid each other if they want to. And leave them the possibility to sleep seperated.

Sometimes it also helps when you rearrange the equipment in the cage. Than your old budgie hasn't got a "home advantage".

Yes they are both females.Casey our bird is about 1 year old and the vet estimates Crystal as being about 2 or 3 years old.I'll give it a couple of days, then change Casey's cage around and try again.I have to get some pics and post them so I can find out what the experts here think as far as age and sex goes.
Thanks again:budgie:

They're definitively both female.
Two females won't get along witch each other unless you buy 2 males for them. ;)

He said she's about 2-3 years old. How did he hit on that? As far as I know it's impossible to tell a budgies age as soon as the first moult is over.

BTW: Chrystals beak looks a bit too long. Did the vet do anything about it?

Crystal's beak was about 2 inches in lenght when we found her,no joke.Me and hubby held her and trimmed her beak as best we could. We made it bleed a bit,so that's when we stopped trimming and put some flour on it.Vet says Crystal most likely has some liver disease, that's why her beak so long.As far as the vet is concerned Crystal got lucky flying into our yard. She is on strictly pellets with a teaspoon of seed as a treat as per vets instructions. She is also on milk thistile to help the liver problem,so far so good. Now if only she got alone with Casey we'd be very happy!
