I feed my budgie Roudybush pellets which are fantastic for them. I know I need to give him seed as well in his diet. Does it have to be another dish in his cage at all times with regular, plain seed or should it be a treat like a seed stick given occasionally? Thanks.
P.S. I know he needs fruits and veggies in his diet as well so no need to mention that, I beat you to it :p

:p You'd be fine providing the seeds either way, mixed in with pellets or separately. I remember having a discussion with my avian vet and she said that budgies only need about a teaspooon of seed a day in conjunction with pellets, veggies, some fruit, cuttle bone and mineral block.
Personally, I offer the seeds in a separate dish, but it really doesn't matter.

Has anyone ever had a problem with their budgie then eating only the seeds and not the pellets anymore?

i would think once they are converted over, they should still eat the pellets.
Pellets should only make up about 25% of a varied diet. I mix the pellets and seed in the one bowl and both get eaten.

Well I put the seeds in a seperate dish last night (before I saw anyone's comments) and he found it in 2 minutes and ate some. I'm going to see if he still eats the pellets as well. If not I will put them in the same dish as Bea suggested. I was looking between Pretty Bird, Nutriphase and the Ecotrition and the Ecotrition seemed like the one that had the highest percentage of everything (crude protein, etc.) and corn was the 7th ingredient which I heard is good. That if corn is in the top 5 it's probably not a very good seed. Anyone know how true that is? The seed also had several dried veggies which I would think is a plus since I can't get him to eat fresh fruit and veggie yet. I also added a mineral block since he's not eating the cuttlebone. Now he has a choice of both in there. Does this all sound good? I'm so worried I'm doing something wrong even though i've had a bird before.
