View Full Version : Cage Placement
Where is your ideal place in your house for your cage. Snowflakes cage is right next to the window because she likes the view but I'm not to comfortable about the draft or sun exposure that comes through it seeing that she is albino.:budgie: :S

Mine are by two windows in what was suppose to be the dining room area of my apartment. The living room, dining room and kitchen are all one big area. I have my computer in the corner by their cage. Here is a pic of the set up. (ps. I have my blinds closed most of the time and live on the first floor so the windows are only open once in a while, mostly when I'm cleaning...etc.

at night they are covered with a queen size quilt that they love.

I don't see any problem keeping her there as long as the sun isn't directly beaming that area and baking her..lol-I don't know how the weather is where you live but here it hot and sticky all the time so we have central a/c, which is ALWAYS on. If you can control the temp in that room then it's fine.;)

I keep mine in front of a window but they get no direct sunlight. They seem to like it there.

I keep mine in front of a window as well. I open the blinds and it bring lots of light. They thrive there it seems. So many different birdy noises from them! I only have 2 and they sound like 10. Music to my ears!

I am glad that you asked this question as my birds are by 2 windows but are not right in front of it. I worry about opening the windows because of draft. You those of you who have yours by window ever open the window when it is nice. I want to but I worry they will get a draft I also cover them at night cause it gets cooler and I feel the draft could happen so far so good what do you think?

The main idea is no DIRECT sunlight, just natural light and the view is fine. You can open ONE window for them from time to time. If more than one window is open it will cause a draft. If it's cool out then no. When it gets a bit colder here (colder to us in FL is about 60F) I keep the quilt covering their cage on the back and sides to keep that corner warmer since they are directly by the window. We have central AC but I never turned on the heat part..not even sure if it works.:o I keep the house at about 77-80F.

My cages are in my room, the location I am in most of the time in comparison to the rest of the house. Budgies and most other birds like to be in locations where there is the most people traffic and where they can get the most attention.

I had my large flight cage in my bedroom for a few days and they just seemed to love seeing this new side to me at my computer busy busy busy all the time and it is more intimate because the room is much smaller. I love budgies! ;)

I open up the windows all the time to air the place out and they are fine. Like babyluv12 said it is when it gets cool that would be the problem. My birds love to have the windows open. It is rather tropical outside my window and they just love it.

Don't you just love how they react to you being busy on the computer? The cage is actually on the same desk as my computer and since I'm on it so often and they're only a half foot away from me, they do everything in their power to gain my attention! They love distracting me when I'm on the computer, and especially when I'm trying to focus on the task at hand. Late at night before their bed time, Banana actually sings to me typing, almost like he's trying to get my attention by singing everytime I type. He likes to be the loudest one in the room. :)
How do they react differently when they're in the large flight cage?

They are always in the large flight cage. It's huge! They have lots of room and I really like that. When I rolled them in the bedroom they were quiet at first. But there I was at the computer, a familiar site (me). They got used to it and would sing and chirp. When I would look and talk to them or pass the cage they seemed to be quite focused on me! It was an amazing experience, the level of intimacy with a bird, a familiarity, how sweet.

Sometimes budgies seem to show so much personality and depth, it's hard to believe how smart they actually are. Especially when it comes to something like a regular occurrence like working on the computer. Budgies never cease to amaze me, each and every day. :)
