Bluey seems chirpy enough and is eating well but his droppings are a bit loose. His tail is clean and he acts as normal. Any suggestions?

If you give him greens regularly, stop for a couple of days and see if that fixes him up. That's all I can think of at the moment, but if it continues there are diarrhea medicines available from any pet store.
Good luck!

I would simply watch your little sweetie for a day or two to see if the droppings continue to be loose. Is the outer fecal portion not formed or is it that the middle urate portion (the white part) is watery? If it is the white part that is runny, that is simply an increase in water output and is not considered to be diarrhea. If however it is the outer fecal portion that is loose and not formed, then that would be diarrhea and could be caused by a number of things, including a change in diet, stress, parasitic or bacterial infection.....
Keep us posted!

It seems to be the white part that is watery so that should be Ok. It's quite funny about you saying it is an increase in water. We had to buy a new cage a couple of months ago ( a nuisence as it was only the bottom which was cracked but they don't sell bottom parts ) and it had slightly different feeding and water dishes. To this day he hasn't used the food dish - he prefers the his one which slots into the bars and is a drop feeder. there was always 2 in our old cage as at one time we had 2 birds and they used one each!We thought too he wasn't taking any water as for nearly a week we hadn't seen him near the dish. However we caught him out one morning so knew he was drinking!

Well Bluey is still having problems. I got him stuff from the pet shop and used it in his water. It didn't make much difference. Then I took him to the vet. We don't have specialist avian vets here. The vet gave me antibiotics to put in his water. It did not help. I went back. The vet said to change his seed. He seems very chirpy and hops about OK but he is now dirty under his tail and the bottom of his cage is wet and messy. I don't know what to do now.

He was on them for about 2 weeks. The vet said 5 days but when it was no better I kept him on them until they were finished. When we went back the vet said she didn't want to give him more

Do not feed the brocoli as its very bad for their digestion, scooby used to love munching through a sprig, now she doesn't even see them anymore, she get spinage instead :D

I tend to disagree that broccoli is hard on their digestion. Broccoli is a safe food for budgies and is actually an excellent source of vitamin C and A. If budgies do eat a lot of veggies like broccoli, it can result in loose droppings, but that is NOT diarrhea....it is simply an increased output of water that was consumed.

It was not an avian vet. We don't have them here. Also I have not been feeding him greens in case that was the cause of the problem. He is still bright and chirpy.

We dont have Avian vets here either but a normal vet know their stuff too, but maybe your best taking him to another Vet if he gets no better.

Sadly I think Bluey will not be with us much longer. We were on holiday and got him back on Monday and he was bright and singing. Our friend who was watching him said his problem appeared to be improving. However by Tuesday night he was poorly and hunched up. Yesterday he was not eating and seems to be constipated. Today he ate a little and drank but apart from a few chirps he is quiet and puffed up.

Today he seems better and his dropping are normal after months of problems. I don't know if he is going to be OK or not. He is chirping more and moving about more but not quite as much as usual.
