Hello!

I am just wondering whether the 'wild type' green and yellow budgie, along with the spontaneous sky blue mutation are healthier than other mutations, because they are the more 'natural' forms. What are your opinions on this? Have you had very long lived birds of other mutations? And also...what would you say are the average lifespans of your birds? I've had four so far...and none have reached 5 years; even though they have a varied diet, free flight around the house, fresh food and water at all times, and loads of love and affection. Tumours seem to be the end of my beautiful darlings. :(

Also, are recessive pieds and other rarer mutations less hardy? I know that recessive pieds tend to be a little smaller than others, but are they more fragile? I hope not, my last budgie was a recessive and she was a beauty, and my next budgie may be a pied as well. So, I was just wondering, thanks in advance for your thoughts!

wow, I just noticed...the budgiecons! the blue one looks just like my dear Topaz, and the green/yellow one like Echo! Aww, I miss my little fluffies.

Um i dont believe other mutations are less healthy. Although someone told me that it is the case for parrotlets.

Can't help with the rest sorry. Although i didn't know recessive pieds were smaller...?

I read it in one of my bird books; I was surprised as well. I only knew that they didn't develop white irises like most other budgies.

They way they are bred now the different mutations are no different healthwise. While the green's may have the 'wild' colour they are so far from the wild type that they're no different to a recessive pied or something.
