I am a new owner and have been doing lots of research. The parakeet kit that I purchased with my baby had seed with it, but since I have been researching I am learning that pellets maybe the best option. Could someone help me with this please. Thank you:confused2:

Welcome Courtney and budgie (name please?:) ) . Most parakeet/budgie kits are not exactly practical but sounds like you've done your research and found that out. Budgies need seed, however seed are high in fat and can cause many long term problems since they are not providing all nutriets they need. Pellets are what is recommended since they contain many more vitamins, proteins..etc. I use either Zupreem Avian Maintanance Fruit Blend or Zupreem Avian Maintanance Natural Diet. I tend to use the second more since I like that there are no artificial colorings. There are alot of other brands availble but this is the one I like (and so do my fids).
Also, always, even if your budgie doesn't touch them at first- provide veggies and fruits. They need variety. You will find that some like their veggies cooked, some raw, some mashed on a plate and some hung from the cage- The way I see it -WHATEVER works. Easy things to start with are fresh parsley (washed and hung from the cage), cooked corn, sweet potato, broccolli, spinach, sweet peas cooked, slices of apple or mashed cooked apple (apple sauce with no sugar). There are alot more but those are some of the more common ones that mine like.
Look up pellet conversion methods if your budgie isn't taking to them. Putting them in there or on top of the seed will not work most of the time.
Whatever you do, I am glad you are concerned about caring for your new budgie and that is always a good sign.
