Yes, it is just an American thing. Memorial day is a holiday where Americans nationwide remember the veterans of war and our dead soliders who died for thier country. We usually have family meetings and barbacues on this day.

We had a lovely memorial day. we bbq'd, swam and enjoyed the lovely weather!
i walked max at about 7am, i counted a whopping 7 flags, including my own!!! shame on my neighbors!
