Ahhh I'm not sure what to do!! :(:( A long time ago when I first got Willow, one of her blood feathers broke an she was bleeding. Then itstopped lter and since then she's just always had a weird looking feather there, but now just now I had my hand in her cage and she slew (with wings clipped) to the other side nd hit herself, the same feather broke again. She's bleeding right now anf I don't know what to do! T_T

Hi Kate, broken blood feathers can cause a problem. The only way to stop the bleeding is to pull out the broken feather and let a new feather grow. To do this, gently extend the wing, and pull at the base. Don't use tweezers though (they won't work). Good luck

It looks as though you are still stuck. Try these sites:

well...both feathers have stopped bleeding but there's so much blood stains that I can't really tell which feather broke :( And I'm kinda afaid to pull it out myself. the place where I just got Pidgey will probably be able to do it for me though and they open back up aon tuesday. Do you think Ishould just be very gentle with her until then, making sure they dont re-break, and then call them up and take her there to get them pulled?

Could you give her a quick bath to clean up the feathers and see things better???

If you really cannot pull the feather out or go to an avian vet quickly, the best think to do is to spread your birds wings and apply flour with a Q-tip/cotton bud dipped in water to the break. This should stop the bleeding until you can go to get someone to help

shawna, I would like to do that but she is not tame at all and obviously wouldn't cooperate, and could end up hurting herself :( But also, her bleeding HAS stopped, like it's pretty much just a lot of dried blood on her feathers now, but those two sites I looked at said that even if it does stop bleeding on its own, if bumped or hit, it can re-open and start bleeding again. So now I'm thinking my best option is to bevery careful with her untl tuesday and then take her down to that place to get her feathers plucked :-/ It's not bleeding anymore, so right now its causing her no harm...

Please try to avoid giving your little sweetie a bath for now. If she gets wet, the blood clots that have formed to prevent more bleeding may dissolve, resulting in even more bleeding. You don't want to start it all over again!
I know what it is like to have a budgie who is not tame bleeding. We had to towel our little sweetie and try to hold him still while we pulled out the feather that was bleeding like crazy. Fortunately, I was able to pull out the feather and he went back to playing afterwards.

Thanks for the advice, Budgiekin. Yeah, I think I'm going to be very careful not to break the clots in her feathers and then on Tuesday I'll take her up to the bird place to have her feathers pulled. Sound good?
When she was bleeding you could have put syptic powder or just normal cooking flour on the end where is was bleeding this works with toenails too!

An update...we took her to the place today and they pulled out her two feathers for me for free! ^_^
Then when we got in the car, she started bleeding A LOT, not from another blood feather but something else, so we brought her back in, they kept pressure on her for a few minutes, and now she's fine except for some bloodily stained feathers! :):)

Well I'm not really sure what they said, but after they pulled the two blood feather ssomething else started bleeding. Then, they applued pressure to her for a few minutes and now she's perfectly fine!
