i have 2 budgies right now ive had them for a year and their wings arnt cliped never was. and they are perfectly trained. but im thinking of getting 2 more 1 at a time and ill keep it in a different cage away from the others untill its trained. but im thinking would it be faster to train the budgie if its wings were clipped? ive never had 1 with its wings cliped so i dont know. if it does help to train it faster than ill do it, i only want its wings clipped untill its trained then ill let it grow out and that is when ill release it into my cage with my other budgies. i dont wanna put it in there with its wings still clipped because i dont want it jealous of the others because they can fly fine and it cant. but let me know what you think and how many of you have your budgies wings clipped?

I clipped both Blinkie and Ozzie's wings, but only once. I probably didn't need to clip Blinkie seeing as a practically raised him but i find it's a safe way to get them used to the house without any crashes into windows, mirrors, etc. Ozzie i got from a pet shop and i clipped his wings as soon as i got him home, then held him, did step ups and kissed his tummy for the following 2hrs. As a result he was to the pacing/begging to be let out whenever he saw me stage within the first week. :)

Bea was Ozzie like a little tame. i bought sonic and Lilly from a pet store and when i get him out of his can i can give him kisses and all but i want him to want to come out so would it be possible for me to try and do that now. Like keep him away from his cage for a while practice step up and all that. It is it so late cause he know where his cage is and that's where he feel safest.

Ozzie wasn't tame, he didn't really like me at first but if the budgie is a baby the first few hours at home are important, you don't want them to get cage clingy, you want them to cling to you so you keep them with you for the first few hours. That way you're their comfort zone, not the cage.

I have bought budgies with clipped wings and budgies without. The ones clipped have been much easier to finger train. In fact, those that aren't clipped I have never been able to train. I let the clipped wings grow out because I love to see fully flighted birds, but my recommendation would be for one clip when the bird first comes home.

i personally find it easier to train a clipped bird.

The budgies I've bought so far all had clipped wings, but I let them grow out and never clipped them again. My birds always have free flight available, they're only in their cage at night and in the afternoon for a nap! A bird is a bird and I believe that they should be able to fly; of course, it is easier to finger-train them when clipped, but after they are tame I never re-clip them.

Just my thoughts. :)

how can you give them free flight ALL day except night. your not afriad of them going somewhere theyre not suppose to? i mean i tend to sometimes leave my cage door open and they come out during that time and play but they come back in but im not worried about that because they donot get out of that room (its a big room) even though the exit is wide open. but i just get scared of doing that because they somehow knock themself outsomewhere and fall down and you cant find it or something like that

I believe having the wings clipped when you first bring them home is beneficial. They will rely more on you to get to things and it is easier to finger train. Just make sure whereever you get the wings clipped at that you tell them to only clip the first 4 feathers. Most of the time that is all they do, but just to be safe tell them. Some people will clip all 8 (I have no idea why) and that will make them crash to the ground. The lady I got Gizmo from had that happen and he broke his little chest open from the fall. He is ok now, but the poor little thing had to wear a chest brace and all for a long time.

the ones i see at petstores they are all clipped i dont see any flight feathers on them, does that mean they will fall straight to the ground? i heard about something called bumble bee wing clipping? and i heard clipping all the flight feathers except for the last 2 the ones farthest away from the bird?
