My mum owns a young lady named Rosie. She pulls all of her feathers out from her chest down. bald. Basically anything she can reach with her beak. She lays alot of eggs. she layed 3 last week. she can be moody sometimes but is generally well behaved. This is one strange budgie. what could be wrong?

The reason she may be pulling out her feathers is because she may be lonley and bored. Does she share a cage with another budgie?

I agree, I think she's bored and in breeding condition. What colour is her cere? (The fleshy bit above the beak.)
If it is a really dark brown then she is in breeding condition.

How old is she?
If she is over 1yr and 3mts, I'd get her a male so she can breed, only if you want her to though!

If you don't want to breed her, then spend more time with her and let her fly about. Even train her to be tame!

Please keep us updated and Good luck!

Is she given a variety of toys to play with in her cage? If not, that may help relieve any boredom she may be experiencing and causing her to feather pluck. Choose budgie toys made from a variety of materials such as coconut grass, wood, plastic, fibers...there are so many to choose from.

Does the little sweetie have a cuttle bone in her cage at all times? This is extremely important, especially for female budgies as it provides them with the calcium and other minerals that are necessary for proper egg formation and to make sure she doesn't deplete her calcium stores in her body. Is this the first time she has layed eggs? Hopefully she is not a chronic egg layer as that can be very taxing on a budgie's health, particularly in the long term. Too much egg laying can shorten their lifespan.

Keep us up to date with how the little sweetie is doing!:p

I think all budgies remove a few feathers from there abdomen/chest area when laying eggs, even if there is no male....my female did the same thing when she was breeding laying eggs. You cant really notice the patch unless she is perched or if you lift the budgie.Sitting on teh eggs witha bare chest is alot warmer than sitting on them with feathers my budige didi this when she had eggs.....does anyone agree?
