Wings?

Snowy has wings at the moment and he loves to fly. But I'm worried he might fly away, I have always clipped his wings but he seems to love flying sooo much.:S

I keep Blinkie flighted (and Ozzie once he's tamed well enough that i think i can handle him fully flighted). Flying is what budgies naturally do so of course they LOVE it. :D Just make sure doors and windows are shut and ceiling fans are turned off as well as any other pets locked away before letting Snowy out for a fly. :)

This can be a tough call for sure. I choose to have them clipped because all it takes is one lapse of attention, and your budgie could be out the door. Imagine the doorbell ringing, you open the door to answer it and out goes your precious budgie...no coming back (at least a very small chance of them coming back).

Ultimately, the decision is yours, and not to say that my above scenario would ever happen. Much like you have to child-proof a house for young curious children, you have to budgie proof your house too. Think like your budgie...BE the budgie...lol...and think about all the things you could explore...a pot of boiling water, an open toilet bowl, a ceiling fan, a hot light bulb, a poisonous plant, a window, a mirror...clipping the wings helps minimize the risks of those kinds of things.

Clipping doesn't hurt the bird at all, and I honestly believe it's better than not hiving it clipped. Once you buy the bird its your responsability, if it flies out the door you lose it for good. The fact that once its out there in the unknown world it could easily be killed by either getting hit by a car, someone throwing things at it, it starves, it gets dehyderated, or even if it gets eaten by a cat. All these things you have to think about when you choose not to clip his/her wings, but with clipped wings his air time is limited and it'll give him more time to be tamed and more used to you and those around you.
