LOL, I'm horrible... I walked in to one of our local pet stores empty handed and walked out with two new additions....
I purchased two adult lovebirds.... :D
One is a normal peach faced while the other is a kinda of Lutino... Basically she's pink and yellow.
I'll post some pics later when I get on my other computer.
They seemed very friendly at the store, but now all they want to do is bite me... and those breaks have a good bite to them.
They don't really have names... I was thinking of Vert and Yo, but I'm not positive.
They are a bonded pair, so I might give them a nesting box and see what happens, though Im not sure yet.

That's pretty cool! Every time I walk in a pet store I'm always tempted to purchase some type of pet (bird and non-bird). I know my parents would have a fit if I did though. So I don't. Oh well.

I hope they dont stay nippers either! Though they arent responding to what the pet store guy told me.
When I picked them out, Nick, the pet store guy caught them and handled them like a pro, and they seemed pretty quiet. He clipped them and I took them home. He showed me how to hold them propery so they couldnt bite and a lot more little tid bits about them.
When I took them out of the box they both realized that i was nervous (i have a bird phobia that im working on). The yellow and pink one bit me so i put it in the cage... and likewise with the male, now they see my coming and when i get put my hand in they bite at it. I used to a towel to catch them and had them on my shoulder for a bit, everyonce in awhile. The male would launch an assult on my ear or my pony tail. I need to work on my handling of them, i dont have the exact nack down pat yet.
ANyone have any tips?

*sigh*

It turns out my pretty colored lovebird may in fact be ill.

The combo of a some what long beak and the "red suffusion" coloring, indicated liver/kindney problems or even a vitamin a deficinacy.

I wondering if I should just return them, the pet store guy should give me a refund. As much as I am already attached to them, I just... I dunno "taking the easy way out".

I know I just wouldn't be able to bring them back...I'd be too attached. However, that wouldn't stop me from going to the store to let them know they sold an unhealthy pet and that is irresponsible. This is a tough call to make, and a very personal one.

How did you find out about the illness? Did you bring the sweetie to an avian vet? Is it treatable?

I went back to the pet store today, and talked to teh guy about it.
He's not convinced the bird is "ill".
The info is very iffy on the whole red suffusion and such.
The long beak he says is a result of a lack of a cuttle bone, which there was none in the cage they were in.
I phoned around to some avian vets, and basically they kinda repeated teh same thing.
There isn't enough concrete info to say much, most of the vets just suggested keeping an eye on her/him. If the cuttle bone doesnt help and the bird seems sickly then i should bring it in.
I could bring it in for a blood test, however the closest qualified avain vet is quite a distance away.
